Fidesz MP reelected Roma leader despite budget fraud allegations
“strategic ally” of governing Fidesz,
According to 444.hu, Farkas has been the chairman of Lungo Drom for 30 years. The police have been investigating for five years because of the Híd a munka világába (Bridge to the World of Work) programme. The initiative aimed to help Roma young people to get a job. However, its leaders only bought expensive cars and
spent HUF 1.6 billion (EUR 4.44 million) on luxury items.
Mr Farkas was the chairman of the Roma self-government organisation responsible for the programme during that time. The public prosecutor’s office has interrogated five people in the issue up to now, but Mr Farkas was not among them.
At yesterday’s congress, the organisation said that
they would do everything to hinder the victory of the leftist parties.
They also stated that they regard Brussels’ liberal ideology the EU wants to force on Hungary as unacceptable. Lungo Drom added that the European Union constantly attacks Hungary.
They also said that they reject migration. Moreover, the organisation highlighted that instead of accepting foreign citizens, the government’s complex family support measures are the key to an increasing population.
